Sacred Heart Cathedral

Sacred Heart Cathedral (35 Pratt Street, Suva) – a.k.a. Cathedral of Suva, this is the main ecclesiastical building of the Roman Catholic Church in Suva. Suva Cathedral was built by French missionary priests in 1902 with sandstone brought from quarries near Sydney, Australia. Its architecture is inspired by the Roman Catholic churches in Rome, Italy. The Cathedral is covered with ornaments and stained glass and has a crypt in the basement.

The cathedral serves as the headquarters of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Suva (Archidioecesis suvana) which was created in 1966 by Pope Paul VI. Most services are conducted in English (with one in the Fijian language). Hours: 6:00 am – 5:00 pm (daily).
