Yasawa Islands – located northwest of Viti Levu (Fiji Island), these islands were once off-limits to tourism. In more recent times, the Fiji government has opened these island up as minimal impact eco-tourist destinations. For that reason, lodging options are more limited there. While luxury resorts are starting to pop up in these islands, the Yasawas are better-known for the backpacking traveler. Many of the affordable resorts and lodges are run by locals, giving travelers a true Fijian experience.
